Car Sharing Stories: Janet Jones

This article is the first in a series of member profiles, revealing how car sharing improves our members' lives. Presenting our super-star member, Janet Jones:

At 63, I've owned cars since I was 16. The gas prices summer of 2008 had already taught me to be more structured in the use of my car. My car died in December 2008 and I spent January 2009, shopping for another car. Then a friend mentioned the Victoria Car Share Co-op.

It's working for me. My main need for a car is my golfing date every Tuesday. I book the Smart car in Vic West, the closest to my home in Esquimalt. My clubs, bag and cart fit in easily and on the way home, I do any major grocery and hardware/gardening shopping. I book it for 24 hours because it leaves me the flexibility of using the car that evening.

For short visits into downtown and other parts of town, I use our excellent bus service and I walk---it's great exercise and you really see the neighbourhoods.

Car sharing is working for me financially (no more car insurance), emotionally (no more feeling of getting ripped off at the garage) and I actually feel liberated NOT owning a car! Try it.
